Food is something that we need to survive. At the same time, it is also something that many people enjoy. While there are many food choices and options out there, some food items are more beneficial than others. For example, let’s compare fruits and fruit-flavored candy or flavored soda. Some foods that are healthy but also do not sacrifice their taste are

Apples

To many people, this fruit is something that they are very familiar with and grew up eating. However, what many people don’t realize are the benefits apples have, such as decreasing the risk and chances of developing heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, followed by cancer. Apples also help improve gut health especially since it contains very helpful fibers which act as a prebiotic. At the same time, according to researchers apples may help in preventing certain types of cancers. According to a study published by the British Journal of Nutrition, the consumption of apples was also found to lower the risk of mortality among patients

Green vegetables/leafy greens

While it may not sound surprising at first, certain vegetables have some very interesting nutrition benefits and facts that many may not know of. A good majority of people know of the vegetable kale. However, what some people don’t know is that kale contains a high amount of calcium, even more than milk. Vegetables such as collard greens are also a good source of calcium and vitamins A, B9 (folate) and C. They’re also one of the best sources of vitamin K when it comes to green leafy vegetables. Green vegetables are also known to help with improving GI movement and help with constipation. In general, leafy greens provide vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, as well as helpful substances such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron.

Nuts

Nuts are small and simple, yet loaded with healthy fats, and also great benefits such as lowering cholesterol levels. According to a study that was done, nuts such as macadamia show that it reduces cholesterol levels to a level comparable to that of a low cholesterol diet. It has also been shown to help with or provide protection against diabetes.
