Double win for the warriors

Basketball games for the rest of the season

Can you believe it’s already February? Springtime on the way means it's the homestretch for the Warriors' basketball season. Most of these last games will take place in our very own Thunderdome.

Both the men’s and women’s teams kicked off the first of these last games on Tuesday, January 27. The Central Christian College of the Bible Saints drove two and a half hours from Moberly, IA, to play against Union. Having been only a week since the Warriors were down in Texas playing in the MLK tournament, the Warriors were rested and ready for a good competition.

The women started off the day at 4pm, playing hard in the first quarter and ending it by trailing the Saints by only a few points. After the quarter break, the Warriors took the lead, ending the half with a lead of 35-23. The third and fourth quarters were a battle as soon as the clock started. The Saints wrestled their way ahead of the Warriors. The Saint’s leading scorer was shooting threes from well behind the three-point line, but the Warriors kept answering with Hailey Orian at the three-point line and Nyanbay Pok in the paint. The score was neck and neck down to the last minute of the fourth quarter. It was all heart (and some tough defense and strategic offense) that led to the Warriors securing the win! The final score was 71-64.

The men’s game was very similar to the women’s game in respect to the fight that each team put in. The Saints started strong by snatching any loose ball and getting back quickly on transition, but they relied heavily on one player to score. Braden Essex led the Warriors in scoring, but Rico Cenat, JP Grubbs, Chris Johnson, and Josh Kerongo were close behind him. Points remained even throughout the first half, and at halftime, the Warriors were only one point ahead. The same happened throughout the second half. Each team was fighting: giving and taking ground equally. It took until the last three minutes for the Warriors to slowly take the lead. They won by six points, and the final score was 85-79.

Here’s the schedule for the rest of February. Make sure to grab a spot on the bleachers in the Thunderdome, and maybe you can witness another double win!
