Sa Events!
Just a week ago, students gathered under the bright lights and cold air of the Lincoln Ice Box, lacing up skates and laughing their way across the ice skating rink. The Student Association’s Ice Skating event brought together friends, familiar faces, and even first-timers. Through every wobble and near fall, everyone cheered each other on. It wasn’t just about skating; it was about presence, community, about showing up, and about being together.
That same spirit carried over into this past weekend as the Union community filled the stands to support the school’s basketball team. From the moment the doors opened, the energy inside the gym was unmistakable. Students packed the bleachers, many wearing school colors, red. Many came from their various activities, such as studying or working, but the call came with the same purpose: to support. Every basket was met with cheers, every defensive stop was met with applause, and every hustled play was accompanied by the kind of noise that reminds you how powerful a united community can be.
Even as the game grew intense and leads were exchanged, the crowd never withered. Irresistible chants echoed throughout the Thunderdome, encouragement rang from coast to cost and the team fed off that energy. Although the final buzzer did not bring the result we hoped for, what truly stood out was the unwavering support from the crowd. Win or lose, the bleachers stayed full, applause stayed loud, and the pride in our team never wavered.
Moments like these reveal something special about Union. Whether it’s gliding across the ice or sitting shoulder to shoulder in the bleachers, students continue to show that community here isn’t conditional; it doesn’t depend on the perfect performance or a triumphing final score. It shows that the community shows up in the laughter, in the cheers, and in choosing to be present for one another. In the same way, the ice skating event gave us a friendly reminder of how necessary it is to step away from our usual routine and indulge and enjoy the simple shared moments; the basketball game reaffirmed that same lesson.
As the semester continues, these events stand as a reminder of what makes campus life at Union special. It’s not just the activities themselves, but the people who fill them with life. From the rink to the court, Union continues to show up, and that is something that is worth celebrating.
